Bullying in My Words: Sparked by Friend's Suicide, Teen Tackles Cause

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —
Tharon Trujillo used to
exchange Facebook messages with a friend, and the two typically responded to one another fairly quickly.

One day during his freshman year, he dropped her a line, but she didn't write
back as promptly as usual.

Tharon, now 16, recalls clicking on her Facebook wall and remaining puzzled.
Several posts had left messages saying things like "RIP," but Tharon said he didn't take it too seriously at first.

"But the next day I went to school and everyone was crying," he told KCRA 3 in an interview last Thursday. His friend had taken her own life.

They'd been pals since the sixth grade.

And that's what changed everything for Tharon.

After all, he was no stranger to bullying.

People picked on him "for  everything from my hairline to my speech impairment," he said. "Up until my
freshman year, I was bullied every single day."

He knew he couldn't be alone.
